Active Release Technique

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE (ART)
ART is a state-of-the-art soft tissue technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.

Overused muscles can result from acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc), an accumulation of small tears (micro trauma), or simply by not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia). It can cause your body to produce dense, tough scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue in turn can bind up and tie down tissues that need to move freely. An ART provider uses his or her hands to locate the area(s) of scar tissue, and then apply tension to that tissue while the involved structure is taken through a specific movement to lengthen it. The goal is to help tissues return to a normal state.
